Hosted diagrams you can keep
A hosted diagram is a link anyone who has it can open. Each box below stands for the same number of diagrams on Free and Pro, so the two walls are drawn to scale. Enterprise sets its own allowance in the contract.

Compare plans
Free and Pro figures are per account; Enterprise figures are written for each organisation in its contract. They are read from the plans the API enforces, so this table cannot drift from what an account is allowed to do.

Billing, cancelling and limits in full
The guide covers how to upgrade, what the daily limit does when you reach it, how to cancel, and where your receipts are.
Questions about plans and billing
Short answers about calls, hosted diagrams, organisations and paying.
Calls and limits
Do I need a plan to draw diagrams?
No. The local server runs on your machine with no account, no key and no limit. A plan sets how many calls the hosted MCP server and the REST API allow each day, and whether you may call the REST API to draw and check diagrams.

Can I use the REST API on Free?
You can publish a diagram over the REST API on every plan. The portal and the hosted MCP server do everything else, so a free account draws through an agent. Calling the REST API directly to draw, validate, render, outline or convert a diagram, or to look up icons, needs Pro.

What counts as a call?
Every REST API call and every MCP tool call made with your account counts as one, across every key and every connected agent. Connecting, listing the tools, signing in and reading your usage do not count. The count starts again at 00:00 UTC.
Read more: Plans and billing (opens in a new tab)
What happens at the daily limit?
The service refuses further calls with HTTP 429 and the error code usage.daily_limit until 00:00 UTC. Calls over the limit are refused, not billed. Pro raises the limit from 300 to 50,000 calls a day.

Hosted diagrams
What are hosted diagrams, and who can see a link?
A hosted diagram is a picture Plotwork keeps for you and serves from a link you can paste into a README, a pull request or an email. Anyone who has the link can see it, so share it as you would any public link. Only you can list or delete your diagrams. A deleted diagram can still show for up to an hour, because it can stay cached.

How long are free diagrams kept?
A Free diagram is kept for 30 days after you last published it. Publishing the same diagram again keeps its link and starts that time over. A Pro diagram is kept until you delete it.
Read more: Hosted diagrams (opens in a new tab)
What happens when I reach a hosted limit?
Publishing another hosted diagram is refused until you are back under the limit: 25 diagrams and 10 MB on Free, 2,000 diagrams and 1 GB on Pro. Diagrams you already published keep working.
Read more: Hosted diagrams (opens in a new tab)
What happens to my diagrams if I move to Free?
Nothing is deleted at once. Each diagram that had no expiry gets a full 30 days from the change.

Organisations
Whose plan does an organisation use?
The plan of the person who owns it. Everyone in the organisation works under the owner's limits, so people you invite need no plan of their own, and a member's own plan changes nothing for the organisation. One organisation holds up to 3 people on Free and 25 on Pro, counting the owner, every member including readers, and invitations not yet accepted.
Read more: Organisations (opens in a new tab)
How many organisations can I own?
Free allows 1 and Pro allows 5. An organisation you only belong to does not count against your limit.
Read more: Organisations (opens in a new tab)
Do organisation diagrams count against my own?
No. An organisation keeps a library of its own, counted against the limits of its owner's plan, and the owner's personal diagrams do not count against it. An organisation diagram has no public link: only signed-in members can open it.
Read more: Organisations (opens in a new tab)
Whose daily calls does an organisation key use?
The owner's. A call made with an organisation key counts toward the owner's daily calls, so the team shares that allowance. A call made with a member's own key counts toward that member's.

Billing
How do I pay, and in what currency?
Pro is $9 a month in US dollars, billed monthly by Stripe. You pay on Stripe's own checkout page, so your card number goes to Stripe and never to Plotwork.
Read more: Plans and billing (opens in a new tab)
How do I cancel?
On the Plan page of the portal, whenever you like. Pro stays until the end of the period you paid for, then your account moves to Free. You can keep Pro at any point before then.
Read more: Plans and billing (opens in a new tab)
What happens if a payment fails?
Stripe retries the payment, and Pro stays on while it does. If the subscription ends without a payment going through, your account moves to Free and your diagrams follow the same rule as a move to Free. Manage billing opens Stripe so you can update the card.
Read more: Plans and billing (opens in a new tab)
Where are my receipts and invoices?
On the Plan page, under Receipts and invoices, after your first payment. Each one opens in the page and saves as a PDF.
Read more: Plans and billing (opens in a new tab)
How do I change my card?
With Manage billing on the Plan page, which opens Stripe. Card details are kept off Plotwork on purpose, so that one change happens there.

What is Enterprise, and how is it priced?
An annual contract for one organisation, with its calls, diagrams, storage and people written for it, single sign-on, a data processing agreement, an uptime SLA and priority support. It is invoiced once a year. Ask for a quote through the Enterprise page.
